Germany: 'We don't want fruit veg to be destroyed' - Germany's agriculture minister
German Minister of Food and Agriculture Christian Schmidt laid out Germany's response to Russia's embargo on imports of European foodstuffs, in Berlin Wednesday.
The EU has prepared a support package for Europe's agriculture worth €125 million ($165 million). Schmidt said he wants to make sure that an appropriate sum reaches Germany, adding that local producers of agricultural products needed to be given additional support. He also said new markets needed to be found and surplus production of apples and other products should be consumed rather than destroyed.
Russia has rolled out an embargo on food imports from the United States and members of the European Union.
