German Chancellor Angela Merkel and Ukrainian President Petro Poroshenko held a joint press conference in Kiev, Saturday.

Poroshenko thanked Germany for agreeing to treat 200 heavily injured Ukrainian troops. He also thanked Merkel for German plans to create a special fund of €500 million ($662 million) for the "restoration of Donbass infrastructure."

Merkel said that just because three months had passed "without change" in regards to Crimea, its accession to Russia "has not become legal and lawful."

Merkel arrived in Kiev Saturday for bilateral talks with Poroshenko, and plans also to meet with Prime Minister Arseniy Yatsenyuk during her stay.
