Serbia: Check this poor village out made of precious stones
Villagers on Sunday spoke about the agate, chalcedony, amethysts and jasper that form part of the old decaying houses of Gornji Bucumet village in South Serbia, Sunday. The village is located on the large site of precious and semi precious stones which residents use for building roads, wells and houses.
There is no industry of precious and semi-precious stones developed in Serbia so the stones lay down shattered around the hills on display.
The municiplaity of Medvedja in which Gornji Bucumet is located is one of the poorest in Serbia, despite the fact that tonnes of expensive ore can be seen everywhere in the region. Most of the villagers are unemployed and live on the edge of poverty. Residents of Gornji Bucumet village claim that if someone would come and start exploiting the ore, the area could develop and its residents could benefit from economically.
Although the villagers recognise the stones found around them, many are unaware of the stones are valuable.
