Russia: Riot police detain anti-Putin protesters
More than a dozen supporters of prisoners involved in the Bolotnaya case were detained by riot police during an unauthorized rally on Manezhnaya Square in Moscow on Wednesday.
Opposition activists, who gathered in front of the Monument to Marshal Zhukov with signs supporting Left Front leader Sergei Udaltsov and denounced Russian President Vladimir Putin, were rounded up by the police and transferred to detention centres.
The Bolotnaya Square case dates back to May 6, 2012, when thousands of people held a rally in protest against alleged violations in the parliamentary elections of 2011. Rallies in support of so-called Bolotnaya prisoners usually take place on the 6th day every month.
