
Ukraine: A cry for help as Kiev shells Donetsk
At a checkpoint on the outskirts of Donetsk, a member of the self-proclaimed Donetsk People's Republic appealed to Russian President Vladimir Putin to intervene in the conflict, Friday. "Brothers, we are dying here," the DNR/DPR member said, saying Kiev forces are targeting cities in the Donetsk region with rockets and mortar fire.
Kiev troops continue to shell areas on the outskirts of Donetsk, while fierce clashes have been registered in Yasinovataya and Avdiivka. Both cities are situated to the north of Donetsk, with Kiev forces accused of targeting all vehicles moving to and from the city. At least one person was killed o n Friday morning during the shelling.
The United Nations claims 1,129 people have lost their lives since the beginning of military operations by Kiev forces in the country's east, with 3,442 injured.
