Russia: Over 40 Ukrainian troops flee to Russia
:
At least 41 Ukrainian Army soldiers abandoned their military posts and crossed into Russian territory, Saturday, said Federal Security Service spokesperson Vasili Malaev. They have been housed in temporary accommodation in the Russian border town of Donetsk.
The soldiers had reportedly appealed to anti-Kiev militia in Ukraine's Donetsk region to assist them in crossing over to Russian territory.
While filling in paperwork for their time in Russia, the Ukrainian soldiers discussed their motives for leaving the Kiev forces, with several stating that they couldn't justify fighting civilians from their own country.
