Ukraine: Australian Federal Police arrive in Donetsk
A group of Australian Federal Police arrived Saturday at the Park Inn hotel in Donetsk, as more Federal Police and Australian Defence Force soldiers are expected to arrive for the purpose of securing the crash site of Malaysian Airlines Flight 17. Australian Prime Minister Tony Abbott said Friday that 190 Federal Police, along with an unknown number of Defence Force soldiers, would help recover bodies and investigate the MH17 crash site.
Abbott and Ukrainian President Petro Poroshenko spoke Saturday by phone about further coordination on the investigation into the cause of the MH17 crash. Poroshenko told Abbott that a cooperation agreement between the two countries was sent to the Verkhovna Rada Friday, and that he expects it to be ratified within the next week.
The Australian Federal Police that arrived at the Park Inn hotel Saturday were accompanied by members of the Organisation for Security and Co-operation in Europe (OSCE).
