Fighting between anti-Kiev forces and Kiev troops escalated Monday, leaving the city of Donetsk with heavy battle scars Tuesday morning. After Kiev troops attempted to enter the city with tanks and motorised infantry, the Donetsk mayor's office told all citizens to remain indoors unless absolutely necessary.
Donetsk city infrastrucutre was heavily damaged in the assault, with the windows of several buildings blown out, destroyed cars littering the streets, and craters peppering the city's pavements and buildings.
Donetsk transport centres saw the heaviest fighting and shelling Monday, with several people reported killed and around a dozen wounded in clashes near the central railway station and close to Donetsk Airport.
