Russia: Modded Su-25SM3 jets duel over Krasnodar
Pilots in Krasnodar carried out a series of training sorties in Su-25SM3 aircraft on Thursday. The pilots spent some time doing manoeuvres and preparation on the ground before taking off. When in the air they practised searching and destroying an imaginary enemy in the sky and on the ground. They also simulated flying in pairs.
The SM3 mark denotes heavy modifications of existing Sukhoi planes. In this case the Su-25 has been upgraded with Russia's GLONASS satellite navigation system, a new cockpit display, a thermal imaging camera, new guidance systems and increased weapons carrying capacity. The co-pilot's seat was swapped for an extra fuel tank, giving it a greater endurance threshold.
