Brazil: No plans to reopen Cuban spying facility says Putin
During a press conference in Brasília, Russian president Vladimir Putin denied there are any plans to reopen Russia's former spy base in Cuba, stating there is "no regret" regarding the decision, Thursday.
The Lourdes facility had previously been the Soviet Union's biggest foreign base since opening in 1967, later closing in 2001, but Putin stated the base is not necessary to maintain Russia's defense "capabilities."
