Members of the German national football team returning to their home base in Munich were greeted like conquering heroes by the local political establishment on Tuesday.

Philipp Lahm, Thomas Mueller, Manuel Neuer, Mario Goetze, Bastian Schweinsteiger, Toni Kroos, Mats Hummels and Miroslav Klose will all receive the Bavarian Lion honour from the state in recognition of their achievement towards winning the World Cup.
