A train derailment in the Moscow metro left up to 16 people dead and over 120 injured, Tuesday. Around 200 people have been evacuated from the tunnel, with the operation to bring people to the surface still ongoing. A police officer spoke to the press at the site of the accident and said all measures have been taken to ensure operations run smoothly.
There are about 100 ambulances at the scene including air ambulances to transport the most seriously injured. It appears that some people remain trapped and the number of casualties could still rise.
According to reports by rescue workers, three carriages came off the tracks between the Slavyansky Bulvar (Slavic Boulevard) and Park Pobedy (Victory Park) stations on the Blue line. The Emergency Ministry reported that at 08:39 local time there was a power outage causing the train to brake heavily and the carriages to derail.
