
Ukraine: Mourners bid farewell to Head of Ukraine's Orthodox church
The burial service for Metropolitan Vladimir, the head of Ukraine's Orthodox church took place at the Kiev Monastery of the Caves on Monday. Metropolitan Vladimir died in hospital after losing his battle with cancer at the age of 78, two days earlier.
Due to the current situation in Ukraine, the Patriarch Kirill of Moscow and All Russia did not attend the ceremony and instead the Russian Orthodox Church was represented by Metropolitan Ilarion.
President Putin expressed his condolences, saying Metropolitan Vladimir will be remembered for his years of hard work devoted to Ukrainians and Russians alike.
His role will temporarily be performed by Metropolitan Onufry of Chernovtsy and Bukovina until a new Metropolitan can be elected.
