Hungary: Counter-protest shadows Budapest Pride Festival
Around 100,000 people gathered in Budapest Saturday for the Budapest Pride Festival Parade, calling for greater rights for LGBTQ (lesbian, gay, bisexual, transgender, queer, intersex and asexual) individuals and their allies.
The parade was interrupted by counter-demonstrators promoting "traditional values." Police used tear gas to end the disturbance, arresting two demonstrators and demanding to see identification from another 29.
The far right Jobbik party had called the pride parade a "provocation," but was not thought to have organised any direct opposition.
