
Turkey: Erdogan announced as AK Party presidential candidate
The ruling Justice and Development Party (AK Party) nominated current Prime Minister of the country Recep Tayyip Erdogan as candidate for the upcoming presidential elections in Ankara on Tuesday. Erdogan gave a brief speech after the announcement, in which he thanked his friends and members of the nation for their ongoing support.
Due to party rules, Erdogan cannot run for the role of prime minister again, yet if he manages to win the August 10 presidential elections he will remain in politics until at least 2019.
