Turkey: Solar powered donkeys get shepherds online
A solar panel producer in western Turkey has launched the “plug and play donkey”, a project that brings modern technology to shepherds living in the most remote parts of the country.
The company, called Ser-Gun, stressed that the project was fruit of 30 years of efforts with the local shepherding association in the Izmir province.
The solar panels, that provides 5 to 7 killowatts of electricity, can be used to power laptops, cellphones and powerlights. Although the solar pack costs 2800 Turkish liras (around 966 euros), the Turkish government is covering half of the costs.
