Two African Union soldiers were killed when gunmen attacked a hotel frequented by government officials in the Somali town of Bullobarde on Thursday, in a raid which has already been claimed by the al-Shabab militant group.
Attackers hurled explosives at the building before exchanging small arms fire with Somali and African Union troops inside the hotel. Along with the two AU soldiers, both hailing from Djibouti, two attackers dressed in military fatigues were also killed.
Al-Shabab carried out an attack on the same hotel in March, killing several more AU soldiers. Troops from the transnational organisation are allied with the Somali government in their ongoing fight against the Islamic militant group.
