
USA: Homeless New Yorkers fed by Chinese billionare with Red Guard volunteers
Homeless New Yorkers flocked to a free lunch at the upscale Loeb Boathouse eatery in Central Park on Wednesday, sponsored by Chinese philanthropist Chen Guangbiao.
Served by dozens of volunteers dressed in uniforms reminiscent of the People's Liberation Army of the 1950s, 250 attendees sang traditional Chinese songs, including a paean to 'model citizen Lei Feng'. Attendees were also given several hundred dollars, which Guangbiao said could be used for education or training.
On the menu selected for the event by the recycling magnate included baked tuna in sesame seeds, filet of beef and summer berries with creme fraiche.
