Russia: Surprise military exercises test combat readiness

Mechanised infantry divisions from Russia's Central Military District began conducting unplanned military exercises to test combat readiness in Russian Orenburg district, Tuesday.

Crews covered 350 kilometers in T-72 tanks and APCs to reach the Totskoye training area in the Orenburg region for the drills. The maneuvers tested the ability of the forces involved to rapidly redeploy while under attack from anti-tank guided missiles.

Training also covered such areas as the technical support necessary for redeployment, the organization of military police duty and the loading and unloading of hardware.
