Russia: Rossiya TV journalist Kornelyuk honoured in Moscow
Relatives, colleagues and friends paid their last respects to Rossiya TV journalist Igor Kornelyuk at a memorial service in Moscow on Friday. The service was held at the Special Correspondent studios of the VGTRK network, the organisation Kornelyuk was reporting for when he was killed in eastern Ukraine.
Kornelyuk was with sound technician Anton Voloshin in the Lugansk Region when the pair came under direct mortar fire, allegedly from the Ukrainian army. Voloshin was killed at the scene while the wounded Kornelyuk was moved to a hospital in Lugansk where he later died on the operating table. A cameraman by the name of Viktor Denisov was also part of the crew managed to escape unharmed.
The remains of the two journalists were transferred to Moscow on June 18. Anton Voloshin's funeral will likely be held at a later date as his parents requested an autopsy amid suspicions that he may have been killed by a sniper.
