Turkey: Istanbul Court releases 230 high ranking military “plotters”
Istanbul court released 236 high ranking military officers from prison on Thursday deciding to suspend their sentences for plotting to overthrow Erdogan's government.
This decision followed a judgement by Turkey's Constitutional Court that found reasons to doubt the evidence and witnesses of the highly publicised "Sledgehammer Trial" in 2012.
The Istanbul court therefore ruled that the sentences of the military personnel looking at 13 and 20 years in prison were found flawed and should be suspended until retrial is scheduled.
