
India: Rescue operation for 4-year-old stuck down borewell continues
The rescue operation of a four-year-old girl that fell down a borewell in Nagathana village in the Bijapur district of the state of Karnataka continued on Wednesday.
Special rescue teams from Hatti Gold Mines, as well as emergency workers from Sangli and Pune have been brought in to assist the operation, which also has ten JCB construction machines engaged in the recovery plan.
It is believed the girl is stuck 30 to 35 ft (9 to 11 metres) below the ground next to the borewell. Oxygen is being pumped into the borewell, whilst doctors wait on the site and senior officials along with the child's parents, are camping on the site.
