France: Travellers stranded as Metro strikes bite
Passengers in Paris crammed into the few running carriages as four rail trade unions continued their nationwide strike, one of the longest to hit France, for the sixth day on Monday.
Due to the strike, less than half of the high speed TGV trains are in service, resulting in crowds in the stations. The train company SNCF, set up assistance for commuting students, as the Baccalaureate exam period has started.
The workers first took action a week ago, concerned that the government's plans to unite railway networks will lead to job losses. Unions say 1,000 rail workers are made redundant every year due to the sector's increasing financial problems.
