
Russia: Su-27SM3 fighter jets take flight over Krasnodar region
Pilots of Russian Su-27SM3 fighter jets conducted training flights on Tuesday in Russia's Krasnodar region. The training programme practiced preparation for flight, combat takeoff, interception and force landing of violators of air border of Russia.
The SM3 is a modification of the Su-27. NATO reporting name Flanker, this is a twin-engine supermanoeuverable fighter aircraft designed by Sukhoi construction bureau. It was intended as a direct competitor for US fourth generation fighters.
By the end of 2014, 24 Su-27SM3 fighter jets will reportedly be based at the Baranovichi aerodrome in Belarus, as part of the Union State of Russia and Belarus air force.
