The 39th annual Capital Pride Parade hit the streets of Washington DC on Saturday, attracting thousands of spectators. The event featured men and women in a range of costumes marching through the city, while spectators and performers alike waved the rainbow flag now associated with LGBT rights.

For the first time in the events history a U.S. military guard team marched in the parade. The eight-man team from the U.S. Army Military District of Washington, authorised by the Department of Defence, paraded through the streets while holding a range of American flags including those belonging to different military branches.

Various groups, movements, LGBT communities and other organisations took part in the festival. Festivities continue on Sunday 8.
