Gemany: Year of Russian language kicks off in Berlin
Berlin saw the launch of the most recent 'crossover' year Friday; a year of German language and literature in Russia and a parallel year of Russian language and literature in Germany.
The event fell on the birthday of Russian poet Alexander Pushkin, widely considered to be the father of modern Russian literature and one of history's greatest poets.
With around 150 million native speakers, Russian is the 7th most spoken language in the world and one of the six official languages of the United Nations.
