UN Russian Language Day was celebrated at Berlin's State Library on Friday, with a press conference and discussion on Russian literature being followed by a musical performance. Falling on June 6, the date marks the birthday of Russian poet Alexander Pushkin, widely considered to be the father of modern Russian literature and one of history's greatest poets.

With about 150 million native speakers, Russian is the 7th most spoken language in the world and one of the six official languages of the United Nations.
