India: Sword wielding Sikhs clash inside Golden Temple
At least seven people, including one child, were injured as task force volunteers of the Shiromani Gurdwara Parkbandhak Committee and radical Sikh activists clashed inside the Golden Temple in Amritsar on Friday.
Violence erupted during a ritual commemorating the 30th anniversary of the army’s Operation Bluestar. Men from both sides used swords and sticks openly in the shrine complex, which is home to the holiest of Sikh shrines - `Harmandar Sahib'. Eventually the fight spilled out to the adjoining market, as men continued to attack each other for two hours.
Security at the Golden Temple has been heightened since the incident.
