USA: Julian Assange warns of Orwellian future during Personal Democracy Forum
WikiLeaks founder Julian Assange appeared via video link Thursday at the Personal Democracy Forum in New York City, where he warned that one day humanity could "see a situation where everyone has a number, everyone's DNA is taken at birth, their DNA is encoded onto their identity documents or connected to it, to their tax records, to their credit report."
Assange appeared by video link because he was unable to attend the conference in person, as he remains at the Ecuadorian Embassy in London.
Started by Fight for the Future foundation, Reset the Net is a pro-privacy campaign which aims to offer users simple encryption tools to help hide their digital activity from hackers and government surveillance. The project has so far attracted backing from firms including Reddit, Mozilla, Google and Dropbox.
