France: Thousands of Union Jacks planted on Normandy beach
People planted 22,000 union flags, emblazoned with the words 'Thank you', in the sand on Thursday to remember those who landed on Normandy's Gold Beach on D-Day.
Cyril Ager, an 89 year-old British war veteran, came to plant a flag and salute those who had fallen, with his family watching nearby.
In 1944, Ager was an Royal Engineer bulldozer driver whose job was to clear minefields. Since D-Day he has visited Normandy three times and will be attending the international ceremony on Friday.
