France: Paying tribute to World War heroes by playing dress-up
Dozens of people in WWII-era military attire descended on the French town of Ouistreham in Normandy on Thursday, a day ahead of the 70th anniversary of D-Day. Many participants in the re-enactment turned up in period-appropriate restored US military Jeeps.
Many gave assurances that dressing up is a way "to pay tribute" to all those who gave their lives to liberate them from WWII, and is used as a way to not forget what happened in the past.
