France: Security tightened in Normandy ahead of D-Day

One day ahead of the 70th anniversary of the D-Day celebrations, security measures were tightened at the coastal Normandy village, Ouistreham, on Thursday.

Dozens of policemen have been deployed to secure the area that is to host the International Ceremony. Russian President Vladimir Putin, Ukrainian President-Elect Petro Poroshenko, US president Barack Obama, UK Prime Minister David Cameron and German Chancellor Angela Merkel are to attend the event.

7,500 policemen and 3,600 soldiers have been deployed to ensure the safety of the attendees and a smooth running of the celebrations.
