France: Suspected Jewish Museum shooter was born and raised in this town
The industrial town of Roubaix in northern France is the hometown of Mehdi Nemmouche, who is suspected of shooting four people - killing three of them - at the Brussels Jewish Museum May 24.
The city of nearly 100,000 close to the Belgian border has two distinct sides. One side features older architecture, restaurants and green areas where citizens enjoy their free time. The other side is the "ban lieu," an area where much of the poorer population lives.
Roubaix is a multicultural city. While the city centre was filled with people enjoying the sun, the ban lieu appeared calm, with just a few people seen on the street Monday, and some apartments appearing to be abandoned.
