Two teenage girls, said by police to have been gang-raped, were found hanging from a tree in the village of Katra in the northern Indian state of Uttar Pradesh, Thursday.

One man has been arrested in connection with the rape and murder of the two girls, who were cousins aged 14 and 15.

The incident triggered protests in the area with villagers alleging police apathy.
