USA: Boycott fever against Monsanto's GMOs hits San Diego
Thousands beckoned the call for a global day of action taking place in over 400 cities against American multinational chemical and agricultural biotechnology corporation Monsanto on Saturday, with the San Diego rallying against the company's "predatory business" and "corporate practices" which "threaten health, fertility and longevity."
While GMOs have been banned partially in Austria, Bulgaria, Germany, Greece, Hungary, Ireland, Japan, Luxembourg, Russia, France, Switzerland and Costa Rica, factory farm animals throughout the world, according to the San Diego March Against Monsanto organisers, are still fed GMOs.
The protesters also say that despite an open letter from world scientists to all governments concerning genetically modified organisms signed by nearly 1,000 scientists from 84 countries, detailing "concern" regarding GMOs, coupled with a call for an immediate five year suspension of GMO crops, a public enquiry into Monsanto's use of agriculture and food security has still not been carried out.
