USA: Russia and China block UN's war crime probe on Syria
A vote on submitting war crimes in Syria before the International Crinimal Court was defeated in the United Nations Security Council on Thursday. France had drafted the resolution which would have given the court the authority to investigate claims of war crimes committed during the war in Syria. Last year the United Nations estimated that over 100,000 people had died as a result of the war.
The resolution was supported by the 13 nations on the council but vetoed by Russia and China who argued that it was a pretext for aggression against the Syrian Arab Republic. Syrian representative Bashar Ja'afari defended his country's record and accused France of also being guilty of war crimes in the past.
