Turkey: Police unleash water cannons at crowd protesting mining disaster
Dozens of people protesting about the death of over 200 workers during the Soma mine explosion were stopped by the police with water cannons in Ankara, Wednesday.
The protesters were trying to make their way to the Energy Ministry office when they were stopped by the police barricade. The protesters hurled stones and shouted anti-government slogans about management of the ongoing mining disaster in Soma.
Prime Minister Recep Tayyip Erdogan arrived on Wednesday at the site of accident where over 100 workers are believed to be still trapped underground.
