Ukraine: Lugansk People's Republic declares independence
Lugansk People's Governor, Valery Bolotov said that the Sunday May 11 referendum "led us to the formation of a new independent state", as he spoke to a crowd in Lugansk, Monday.
"By the price of your great efforts, overcoming unbearable hardship and obstacles, protecting your choice on the referendum, you have chosen the path that led us to the formation of a new independent state Lugansk People's Republic", said Lugansk People's Governor, Valery Bolotov.
A total of 96.2 percent voted for self-rule in the Lugansk region of eastern Ukraine, where the results of the Sunday referendum were announced on Monday.
