England: BNP anti-mosque rally faces off against anti-fascists
In the lead up to the European elections, local British National Party (BNP) candidate Christopher Livingstone led a protest against the possibility of a mosque being built in Hemel Hempstead, just outside London, on Saturday. However, according to the local council there has been no formal application to build a mosque.
The BNP protest, which Livingstone claimed was requested by local residents, pulled in about 15 people, whereas the Unite Against Fascism (UAF) protest was five times the size and pulled in many local residents, including people from the local muslim community.
Several members of the New British Union of Fascists (NBU) were present at the protest, with Livingstone stopping to give a clenched fist with the members of NBU. A Golden Dawn flag was displayed at the protest.
