Belarus: Hockey fiends fervant as 'Russia Unites' fan house opens
A day after the official start of the 2014 IIHF World championship in Minsk, 'Russia Unites' fan house opened its doors at the 'Overtime' nightclub in the centre of Belarusian capital on Saturday.
Vladislav Tretyak, President of Russian Ice Hockey Federation and former legendary goalkeeper of the Soviet national ice hockey team, presided over a ceremonial first puck between Russian Ambassador to Belarus Alexander Surikov and famous Russian circus artist Edgard Zapashniy to launch the opening of the fan house.
Speaking to the press after the opening ceremony, Vladislav Tretyak said that there were appeals for the IIHF to boycott the 2014 Ice Hockey World Championship but all the delegations decided that the tournament should be held in Belarus.
The Russia Unites fanhouse will be open until the end of the championship on May 25th. It's doors are open to not only for Russians, but for fans of the other national teams.
