Germany: Berlin Wall gets spring clean after official neglect
Artists, activists and tourists grabbed their sponges to help clean the East Side gallery section of the Berlin wall on Sunday. With much of the wall's art now vandalised with graffiti, local activists took it upon themselves to give the wall a spring clean, saying the local government were too bound by bureaucracy to do it.
The 1.3km long section of the wall consists of 106 paintings from artists all over the world, with notable contributors including Thierry Noir, Jim Avignon and Dmitry Vrublel, who painted a mural showing Leonid Brezhnev and Erich Honecker kissing.
