Russia: Lavrov hits back at Kerry's assault on RT
Russian Foreign Minister Sergei Lavrov spoke out on Friday against comments made by U.S. Secretary of State John Kerry labelling RT (Russia Today) as "Putin's propaganda machine." Speaking in Moscow, Lavrov described Kerry's Thursday comments as a demonstration of the US' strategic ability to distract from "what's going on."
The Russian foreign minister continued that he agreed with the U.S. secretary of state that RT does indeed pose as a "very serious competitor" to fellow English-speaking news channels such as CNN and BBC, and continues to attract "growing demand across the world."
Out of the belief that RT offers a popular alternative for its "vast audience", Lavrov concluded: "We will actively support this independent point of view."
