Japan: Exit your 'comfort zone' to seal trade deal - Obama tells Abe
US President Barack Obama urged Japanese Prime Minister Shinzo Abe to get out of his comfort zone and finally seal a Pacific-wide trade deal, in Tokyo on Thursday.
Pointing to the growing importance of the Asia-Pacific region, Obama underlined the importance of the Trans-Pacific Partnership (TPP) in facilitating reforms and urged Abe to apply considerable pressure to his internal constituency in order to achieve definite results.
Obama also commented that sectors of the Japanese economy have historically been restricted, including the agricultural sector. He argued Japan has benefited more from US markets than vice-versa.
