      Germany: Bernie Ecclestone bribery trial begins in Munich

      Crowds of spectators and journalists gathered outside a courthouse in Munich on Thursday, ahead of the trial of Formula One chief executive Bernie Ecclestone.

      Ecclestone is on trial for charges of allegedly having bribed German banker Gerhard Gribkowsky with $44 million (€32 million) to ensure the sale of Formula One shares to private equity firm CVC.

      If convicted, Ecclestone, 83, faces the possibility of 10 years in jail.
