Germany: Women grapple to be crowned Queen of the Mat 2014

The women's turn to fight for the German Grappling League Cup took place at FIBO Power 2014 in Cologne on Sunday. Grappling is a sport that combines elements of ring disciplines such as judo, wrestling, Brazilian jiu jitsu and luta livre; the goal is to physically place pressure on the opponent without hitting or kicking them. Though grappling is known for being a low-risk contact support that leads to few injuries, one losing contestant Astrid Noerenberg was left with a bloody nose but continued to fight.

In the Ladies finals, Lisa Bengez lost to Julia Kunter with a Reverse Triangle Choke move in the -60kg category, and Anke Broemmer was victorious over Medina Ghafoor in the +60kg category.

This is the fourth year running that the German Grappling Leagues has been hosted at FIBO Power.
