Spain: Thousands demand an end to austerity in Barcelona
Thousands have taken to the streets of Barcelona, to march against austerity measures and call for greater social rights on Sunday.
Called by Spain's main labour union, the CCOO, protesters are marching under the slogan "We will defend our rights". The rally is part of the "Campaign for a Social Catalunya". Several smaller unions also back the march, with General Secretary of UGT (General Union of Workers), Joseph Maria Alvarez Suarez, present.
People carried placards, flags and banners, declaring that they will fight against the "crisis of capitalism". A similar rally in Barcelona on March 29, "Disobedience2014", ended in violent clashes between police and protesters after police attempted to block the rally from entering Catalunya Square.
