Canada: Montreal students get militant against austerity
Tens of thousands of protesters headed by student group ASSÉ marched on downtown Montreal,Thursday, to protest against "austerity measures" announced in the 2014 provincial budget.
Police declared the protest, which kicked off around 2:15 p.m. local time, illegal, as students gathered in Parc Émilie-Gamelin near the intersection of Berri Street and Ste-Catherine Street East. Police used tear-gas in a bid to disperse crowds.
By the time the protest ended, around three hours later, six people had been arrested.
