India: Meet the 19-year-old girl trapped in the body of a toddler
Ajifa Khatun, 19-year old girl from Mirapar village in West Bengal has a rare medical condition which has prevented her from growing. Ajifa stopped growing just before her second birthday, weighs just 12.5 kg and still needs to be spoon-fed and cared for by her family members.
Doctors are still unsure what has caused her condition, but it has been suggested that she could have Laron-type dwarfism.
Despite her condition, Ajifa has still experienced some aspects of adult life. For example in 2013, Ajifa, attended local elections where she cast her first ever vote. Her mother Apila said that she accepts her daughter the way she is. However she fears for Ajifa's future once she is no longer around to care for her.
