ISS: Expedition 39 crew completes mission despite engine burn-out
Expedition 39 crew members Soyuz Commander Alexander Skvortsov and Flight Engineers Oleg Artemyev of the Russian Federal Space Agency Roscosmos and Steve Swanson of NASA arrived at the Poisk dock on the International Space Station (ISS) on Thursday, succesfuly completing their mission despite having undergone technical difficulties. The astronauts on-board met the remaining Expedition 39 crew members, U.S. astronaut Rick Mastracchio, Japanese astronaut Koichi Wakata, and cosmonaut Mikhail Tyurin, who have been on-board the ISS since November.
The crew's arrival was delayed by two days after the spacecraft was unable to complete the third thruster burn, which was meant to keep the capsule on its planned course. The intended six hour long trip was extended an extra two days, causing the arrival time to be moved from Tuesday to Thursday.
The Russian Soyuz spacecraft launched into space on Tuesday from the Baikonur Cosmodrome in Kazakhstan.
