Russian troops of the Southern Military District conducted drills at the Nagvalou coastal firing range in Abkhazia on Tuesday.
Troops deployed weapon systems including the BM-21Grad multiple rocket launchers, SO-152 Akatsia self-propelled artillery, 9K114 Shturm anti-tank missile systems, 9K38 Igla man-portable infrared homing surface-to-air missile and the 2S12 "Sani" heavy mortar systems during in tactical drills. The main aim of the exercise, which included precision-guided munitions and modern means of jamming, was to build cooperation between mechanised infantry with artillery units when carrying out mobile defence in unknown areas of the coastline.
Joint tactical exercises of Russian artillery and mechanised infantry units had started on Mar 21, as part of larger scale military drills and evaluation of combat readiness in the southern and western military regions.
